KC and Jayden’s military engagement is very special to me. Not only do I not often have the pleasure to photograph a military couple, but I also had a remarkable connection with these two that ultimately resulted in one of my more memorable moments with a couple. I usually like to spend the several months leading up to a wedding to ultimately get to know the engaged couple that I’m working with. That includes in-person planning meetings, emails, and sometimes an engagement session. For me, it is important that the people I work for really trust me as though I’m someone that is part of their family. If there is no trust involved then it’s more difficult for me to really connect with the couple on their wedding day and thus showcase who they truly are in the photos that I take for them.
Ironically, although Jayden and I did keep in touch via email, we didn’t have the opportunity to actually meet in person until we took engagement photos together not long before their wedding took place (literally, we had a week!). I always never recommend to do it this way. But these two really wanted to take these photos and because of KC’s schedule in the Army we had limited options and availability before the wedding itself. So I definitely made an exception.
I like to put these two in the category of people that you truly *feel* like you’ve known forever. As soon as we met, we connected. It made for an easy engagement session, and not to mention these two are obviously adorable and absolutely in love. I barely needed this preparation for them on their wedding day, but I’m so glad we were able to have a quiet moment together!
