I am REALLY excited for this wedding coming up. Brittany contacted me a long time ago during her search for an adventurous engagement photographer available to shoot her wedding in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado. After a lot of back-and-forth conversation via email, I learned that Brittany and Michael are world travelers. They lived in New Zealand for a long period of time and traveled all over Asia before making their way back to the states after becoming engaged. It’s been wonderful to hear about all these amazing memories that these two have already made together as a couple (I read a lot about their travels on their blog, Notes from Nomads). After talking with Brittany I knew we would be a perfect fit once she revealed one final fact to me: she said, “I love cats”. haha!

For their engagement photos taken last fall, these two wanted to go on an “adventure” to somewhat reflect their nomadic life together. A few ideas came to mind but they weren’t quite as extravagant as we all were hoping for. Finally, we decided to just drive. The Sand Dunes National Park in Southern Colorado was our final destination, but we all agreed we would stop on the side of the road as soon as we would find a spot that we couldn’t pass by. About halfway into our drive, we found an AMAZINGLY beautiful patch of fully yellow aspen trees right in a valley over La Veta Pass. It was a beautiful experience being there. The wind subtly blew through the trees as we took a gorgeous stroll through the aspen forest. Every so often we were lucky to find that the trees would drop a small bunch of yellow aspen leaves as we were photographing, as though nature was celebrating the beautiful afternoon with us!

It was really hard to leave that particular location, but we knew we had to make it to the Sand Dunes before the sun went completely down. Surprisingly, this was the first time that I’ve ever photographed engagement photos at Colorado’s infamous Sand Dunes. I definitely hope it will not be the last time because I had a blast taking these. The sand was so soft between our toes. We walked and explored the foothills together and took some beautiful photographs as the sun slowly started to set. To top the night off, we ended up with some final romantic “blue hour” photos. We literally photographed until the sun went down.

These two are getting married soon on a farm at one of the smaller mountain towns just north of Aspen, Colorado. After the amazing time we had together for their engagement photos I can easily say I’m anticipating an equally unforgettable experience for the wedding, and I can’t wait to share those photos when the time comes!
